The hatchery has operated from this site
since 1995. Wild salmon from the River Wye and trout are hatched
from eggs.
This process improves
the survival rate of young fish compared to hatching them in
rivers.
The hatchery uses
water from a natural spring that formerly provided drinking water
to Cinderford and the East Dean area. Severn Trent introduced an
alternative supply for local drinking water in the 1980's.
